Cleaning between your teeth
A toothbrush cannot reach between teeth. Cleaning there once a day helps stop decay, gum disease and bad breath.
This is general information, not a diagnosis. It does not replace a check by a dentist or doctor. If you are worried, contact a dental professional.
Interdental brushes
- Small brushes that fit between teeth. Often easier than floss, especially for bigger gaps.
- Ask your dentist or hygienist which sizes fit you.
- Slide it in gently. Never force it. If it bends, try a smaller size.
Floss
- Use about 45 cm of floss. Wind it round one finger on each hand.
- Slide it gently between two teeth. Do not snap it onto the gum.
- Curve it into a C shape round one tooth. Move it up and down.
- Do the same on the other tooth. Do not forget the back of your last teeth.
Many people clean between teeth before brushing. Then the fluoride toothpaste can reach the gaps.
When to see a dentist
- Bleeding keeps going even with daily cleaning.
- You are not sure which method suits you. Your team can show you.
